From August 5 to 6, Pang Jinhui, director of economic and trade relations of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai (SHETO), and his delegation paid a visit to Changzhou. Du Jibin, director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, met with the delegation.

On the morning of August 5, representatives of the relevant departments of Changzhou held a meeting with the SHETO delegation on trade and economic cooperation between Changzhou and Hong Kong.

According to statistics, by the end of 2019, a total of 2,541 Hong Kong-invested enterprises have been approved for registration in Changzhou, with the paid-in capital reaching US $21.47 billion. Their investments are mainly in the areas of photovolatics, new materials, auto parts, textile and clothing, chemicals, infrastructure, real estate, etc. From January to June this year, Changzhou has received US $982 million investment from Hong Kong, higher than the same period last year. This indicates Hong Kong enterprises’ strong confidence in investing in Changzhou.

SHETO officials said that they will continue the communication and cooperation with Changzhou’s related departments, and help Hong Kong-invested enterprises better develop and integrate into the Yangtze River Delta.

During their stay in Changzhou, the delegates also visited J.D. United Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Tungga Linen Cotton (Changzhou) Co, Ltd. to learn about the business conditions, actual problems, coping strategies and suggestions of Hong Kong-invested enterprises in Changzhou during the COVID-19 pandemic. The relevant information and advice will be submitted to the relevant departments of the Hong Kong SAR government to help introduce supportive policies and measures for Hong Kong-invested enterprises in Chinese mainland to resume development in fighting COVID-19.

The delegation spoke highly of Changzhou’s business environment and supportive measures for enterprises from Hong Kong and Macao, as well as the care and support for Hong Kong people working and living in Changzhou.
