Changzhou has recently announced that it has achieved full coverage of elderly education across all its townships and sub-districts. This milestone was highlighted during a special seminar on the city’s senior education development. In response to the increasing demand for learning opportunities among the aging population, Changzhou plans to further enhance its elderly education resources.
To support this expansion, the city will diversify the range of institutions offering education for the elderly and introduce supportive policies such as tax incentives, financial aid, reduced rent, and collaborative projects. These measures aim to encourage more sectors and organizations to establish or participate in the management of elderly education institutions, thereby broadening the base of providers.
Currently, Changzhou is home to two municipal-level institutions dedicated to elderly education: Changzhou University for the Elderly and the College for the Elderly at Changzhou Open University, along with seven district-level senior universities. The city has successfully established such facilities in all 62 of its townships and sub-districts, achieving 100% coverage.
In 2023, Changzhou was recognized with eight provincial model senior universities and 30 provincial quality senior schools, leading the province in both categories. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education has selected Changzhou’s approach to elderly education as a national model for vocational and continuing education reform.
