On May 23, Chen Jinhu, secretary of the Changzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, led a delegation to Europe for economic and trade cooperation.

During their visit to Austria and Germany on May 23 and 24, Chen's delegation held meetings with senior officials from prominent industrial leaders, including Oberndorfer, Hoerbiger, Engel, MD Electronics, and RAPA. The delegation also witnessed the signing ceremony of two significant projects: a USD $250 million project set to launch in the Wujin Demonstration Zone of the Green Building Industrial Cluster, and a EUR €40 million project by MD (China) Electronics to be constructed in the Sino-German (Changzhou) Innovation Industry Park (SGIP).

Chen Jinhu expressed his appreciation for the contributions of foreign-invested enterprises in Changzhou towards local development. He emphasized the city's diverse industrial sectors, robust supply chains, and dedicated government services, highlighting Changzhou's economic resilience, particularly in the past three years.

Chen emphasized Changzhou's positioning as an "international star city of smart manufacturing and the pivotal hub in the Yangtze River Delta." He underscored the significance of the thriving new energy sector in this pursuit, emphasizing the need for deeper international exchanges and increased openness. He expressed his eagerness for enhanced cooperation with global industrial leaders, aiming for mutually beneficial and sustainable development. Chen reiterated Changzhou's commitment to fostering a world-class business environment based on the rule of law.

Currently, the SGIP is home to 55 foreign-invested enterprises from German-speaking countries. Among them, MD Electronics, a leader in vehicle data transmission, established its Changzhou facility in 2019 and achieved sales exceeding RMB £¤600 million last year.

Engel, an injection molding machine builder, officially opened its Changzhou plant a decade ago. It has completed two phases of the project and exports products to the European market.

Hoerbiger, the world's largest independent compressor valve manufacturer, established its production site in Changzhou in 2009. The company is currently constructing a new plant, scheduled for completion by the end of 2023, to address emerging trends in the Chinese market, including solutions for hydrogen mobility, emissions reduction, and digitalization.

RAPA, an automotive parts supplier, specializes in manufacturing pneumatic and hydraulic chassis, transmission components, and complete systems for various vehicles. Its first-phase project in SGIP, which is about to commence construction, has already received purchase orders worth EUR €50 million.

Oberndorfer, a construction company specializing in building materials, plans to establish its China headquarters for digital transformation R&D in the construction industry in Changzhou, in collaboration with its Chinese partner.

The meetings with industrial leaders and the signing of major projects demonstrate the city's commitment to fostering innovation, promoting sustainable development, and creating a world-class business environment.
