On the afternoon of March 28, Mayor Ding Chun met with the delegation headed by Steve Fischer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novelis Inc., at the Administration Center.
Ding Chun said that in recent years, Changzhou has focused on building a high-quality star city for industries, with continuous efforts on improving the administrative efficiency and business environment. Going forward, the municipal and district governments of Changzhou will provide more efficient and high-quality services for the construction of Novelis’ new project in Changzhou, and promote the development of Novelis in China.
Steve Fisher gave thanks to the municipal government and Changzhou High-tech District for their support and help. He said that with the Foreign Investment Law, China's investment environment will be further improved, and Novelis is confident in its development here in China.
The US-based Novelis Inc. is the global leader in aluminum flat-rolled products and the world’s largest recycler of aluminum. Novelis's plant in Changzhou started to localize its products in 2014. With an annual capacity of 100,000 metric tons, it has been serving carmakers ranging from FAW-Volkswagen and Chery Jaguar Land Rover to SAIC Motor and startup Nio. Seeing a tremendous amount of new energy vehicles coming into the marketplace, Novelis started a project late last year to expand its Changzhou plant with an investment of $180 million. The annual capacity of the plant will be doubled to 200,000 tons when the project is completed in 2020.
