On December 8, China UnionPay Jiangsu Branch and the Payment & Clearing Service Association of Jiangsu, in collaboration with 23 banks across the province, launched a promotional campaign to boost year-end consumption. The initiative includes over 6,000 high-quality merchants offering discounts to encourage spending.
The campaign focuses on four key areas: shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel, and is further divided into four subcategories: discounted shopping, culinary delights, family entertainment, and travel deals. Running through major holidays such as New Year’s Day, the Spring Festival, and the Lantern Festival, the campaign offers instant discounts to consumers using UnionPay at participating merchants. China UnionPay Jiangsu Branch, along with major commercial banks, has allocated more than RMB 20 million for the campaign. When combined with merchants' own year-end promotions, the total funding reaches nearly RMB 30 million.
Financial services play a crucial role in stimulating consumption and improving livelihoods, with payment systems serving as an essential enabler. Since the beginning of the year, Jiangsu has introduced several initiatives to expand domestic demand and support consumption. These include improving payment accessibility for inbound tourists and senior citizens, as well as organizing trade-in programs that encourage the purchase of new products in exchange for old ones.
China UnionPay Jiangsu Branch, working with provincial authorities, commercial banks, and third-party payment institutions, has upgraded payment systems for over 80,000 key merchants across Jiangsu to ensure seamless transactions. The branch has also supported various government-backed subsidy and voucher programs targeting sectors such as energy-efficient home appliances, home furnishings, new energy vehicles, cultural tourism, and elderly-friendly home upgrades. To date, it has distributed RMB 2.3 billion in subsidies to 3.2 million residents through 31 different government programs.
