According to the list of the Top 100 Chinese Foreign Trade Cities of 2019, Changzhou ranks 23rd on the list and 4th among cities in Jiangsu province with a total score of 73.5.
The list has been released by the journal China Customs every year for the past 10 years. It is selected based on five indicators – quality, structure, efficiency, development, and potential of a city's foreign trade. Shenzhen, Shanghai and Dongguan placed among the top three cities.
In recent years, Changzhou has kept improving the comprehensive competitiveness of foreign trade. Since 2014, Changzhou has climbed steadily to No. 23 on the 2018 list.
In 2018, the city's foreign trade value reached a record high of 226.64 billion yuan, up 7 percent year-on-year. Specifically, its export value amounted to 165.29 billion yuan, while its import value was 61.35 billion yuan.
In the face of the serious and complex foreign trade situation, the Municipal Bureau of Commerce stated that it will focus on the task of “stabilizing and improving quality” and contribute to the promotion of high-quality development of Changzhou's foreign trade.
