Recently, it was learned from the News Conference on 2018 Information of Elderly Population and Senior Care Development in Changzhou that as of the end of 2018, the population of centenarians was 324 in Changzhou, 8.48 out of every 100,000 people.
By the end of 2018, the population aged 60 and over was 914,400, accounting for 23.92% of the total registered population in Changzhou. There were 129,400 people aged over 80, and the old-age dependency ratio rose to 17.6%. In 2018, the elderly population increased by 39,100 over 2017, and the proportion of people aged 60 or above increased by 0.82 percentage points.
There are 109 elderly care institutions in the city with over 25,000 beds, of which care-beds account for 57%. The urban and rural coverage rates of home-based care centers (stations) have reached 69% and 42% respectively.
Changzhou has issued the Implementation Opinions on Piloting Long-term Care Insurance to explore the establishment of a sustainable care insurance system. The premiums consists of government subsidies, medical insurance fund transfers and individual contributions, focusing on covering the basic care expenses for severely disabled persons. The long-term care insurance system is piloted in Wujin district and will be launched citywide in due course.
